Interview with Stephanie Laurens

Question: Where did you get the idea to write The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae?

Stephanie Laurens: The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae is my forty eighth published work and these are stories that have been coming for years because I have been writing them. Romances are a particular type of story and they have been around for millenniums and I started writing my particular brand of romances about 20 years ago and I have kept doing it.

Question: Why have you chosen The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae to be set in the Scottish Highlands? What do you enjoy about Scotland?

Stephanie Laurens: Scotland is a very frequently used setting for romances that are set in England in the early 1800's and even the late 1700's because it is a backdrop that you can use for a lot of drama, adventure and romantic-tied backgrounds.

I have been to Scotland but I drew on what I could find in researching because I didn't travel deeply into the Scottish Highlands. I know Edinburgh but I am writing back in the early 1800's so I have to go back and see what Edinburgh was like in the early 1800's. There is always a fair amount of research in terms of what places actually looked like, back then.

Question: When you began this trilogy, did you know exactly how it would end?

Stephanie Laurens: Yes, planning is required to keep the story tied. This is a true trilogy in the sense that the story that ends at the end of book three actually starts in the prologue of book one. This is not just three books that happen to have three sisters; it is actually one single story that happens to encompass three separate romances.

Question: What do you enjoy most about writing romance?

Stephanie Laurens: It's the sort of stories that come to me; it is the storytelling that I enjoy doing.

Question: What are you working on, at the moment?

Stephanie Laurens: I am finishing the next book that will be released in October 2012.
