Vintage, a little eerie and a lot of mystery is the best way to describe the brand-new single, "Whiskey and Wildflowers", from multi Golden Guitar Award nominees, TC Cassidy and Andy Penkow.
The pair instantly hit it off after meeting at the Tamworth Country Music Festival a few years back - vowing to write together. Fast forward to 2025 and the time was right. Getting together to write proved an easy and prolific exercise with the session resulting in the stunning "Whiskey and Wildflowers".
"I was listening to a lot of Sierra Ferrell at the time", confesses TC Cassidy. "I reckon there's some of her influence in there from a musical perspective". Talking about collaborating with each other on "Whiskey and Wildflowers" it's clear this musical friendship holds a lot of mutual admiration and respect of one another. "Andy is one of the most dedicated artists in the country with a deep passion for celebrating the heart of Australian country music. I'm incredibly proud of what we created together", says TC.
Andy echoed the enthusiasm stating, "TC is such a talented singer-songwriter, and I've been a fan of her music for a longtime. I absolutely loved working with her on this song".
After hearing the finished song, the pair agreed the obvious choice of producer was Michael Moko. Known for his thoughtful production and tasteful musical choices, he brought the song to life shaping it into a mysterious blend of 'gothic country'. Moko played all instruments alongside Mick McCartin (Troy Cassar-Daley/The Flood) on drums, Caitlyn Jamieson on fiddle and Miller Moko on organ. It was mastered by Jeff McCormack (Kasey Chambers).
"I'm so happy with the end result. I knew Michael would nail the vibe", says TC.
"Collaborating on this project was a truly wonderful experience" added Andy. "It reminded me that country music is alive and well". TC Cassidy & Andy Penkow, "Whiskey and Wildflowers", is out today.
