Scrapheap Challenge heads out of the scrap yard and onto the open road with five of Britains funniest bodging threesomes, veterans of the heap, going head-to-head to build the ultimate all-round vehicle, for a crazy race throughout the UK. Its Scrapheap Challenge: The Scrappy Races.

In the first race, hosts Robert Llewellyn and Lisa Rogers eagerly watch on, as five teams of amateur engineers have just five short weeks and only £1500 to build five awe-inspiring all-terrain roadsters from scratch. Then the Scrappy Racers head out on a gruelling thousand mile journey through the country lanes, leafy suburbs and inner cities of Britain, to face hair-raising challenges at three very special locations. Each week, as the championship unfolds, teams have eight hours on local scrapheaps along the way to adapt their vehicles for the challenges ahead. In episode one our five teams design and build their mechanical monsters from old scrap, in their own backyards. The pressure is on, as at the end of their build, their madcap creations must undergo a super tough roadworthiness test known as the SVA or Single Vehicle Approval. If they fail, they wont be allowed on the open road.
