Interview with Kate Mantello

Question: What originally inspired the idea of Rock On?

Kate Mantello: I decided to write Rock On, because I realised there was a huge gap in the market for an edgy, practical and down-to earth crystal healing book that enabled readers to experience hands-on crystal healing in their own home. As a crystal healing practitioner and trainer for over a decade, I have worked with clients experiencing everything from anxiety and depression to ADHD and sexual dysfunction. Rock On is a book for everyone – not only people with an interest in spirituality and energetic healing!


Question: How did you develop your interest in crystal healing?

Kate Mantello: I had absolutely no interest in crystals when I enrolled in a holistic healing course in 2006. In addition to Reiki and past life regression, crystal healing was one of the core healing modalities in the course. I was very sceptical when I lay down on the healing table to receive my first crystal healing session, but within a couple of minutes my mind was blown! I saw and experienced things I'd never felt before, which I talk about in the book.


Question: What did you learn, about yourself, whilst writing Rock On?

Kate Mantello: I learned how driven I am when there is an end goal I am working towards. For six months I worked hard to get the book written, while running a training institute and raising two kids. It was a huge undertaking, but I was unwavering in my vision and finally it was birthed.


Question: Is there a message you hope readers take from Rock On?

Kate Mantello: I would love anyone who reads the book to know that the spiritual journey can look different for everyone. There is no 'one size fits all' approach to healing. It's OK if your journey looks different to someone else's. Remain true to yourself and trust your inner compass because it will guide you to where you need to go.


Question: Can you share tips with us featured in the book?

Kate Mantello: One of my favourite tips when working with crystals on the body is to use flat stones, such as worry stones. When you are in the healing room, practicality is important. You don't want to be worrying about how to stop your round tumbled stones from rolling off your or your client's body.

Question: What research did you do, prior to writing Rock On?

Kate Mantello: Rock on is the culmination of my 14-year career as a crystal healing practitioner and a professional crystal healer trainer. Much of what is in the book is based on my personal experience after working with thousands of clients and students all around the world.


Question: What advice do you have for aspiring writers or artists?

Kate Mantello: Be unique, have unwavering certainty that you will succeed and blow them away with your pitch. I had the exceptional fortune of having my first ever manuscript accepted by the first and only publisher I contacted. This is practically unheard of in the world of professional writing. I believe it is because I offered something completely unexpected and was probably the only author that had ever included the phrases 'balls to the wall' and 'unicorn farts' in their pitch!


Question: What or who inspired your love of reading/writing?

Kate Mantello: I have always loved books and writing and have done both for as long as I can remember. I wrote a poem when I was about nine, which my Mum sent to a big city newspaper. Miraculously, they published it in their weekend edition. I think my grandma still has the clipping.


Question: What's next, for you?

Kate Mantello: I am currently rewriting all the crystal healing practitioner courses offered through my online training academy, Evolve Healing Institute. With Covid, the landscape has changed for energy healing and there is a higher need for online based services, which will be reflected in the new course content. I am also working on my next book, which I am super excited about!
