Red Stitch Theatre presents the Australian premiere of On Ego, the ntriguing first essay in Mick Gordon's On Theatre series. On Ego questions the construction of the human ego and takes us on a journey into the notion of identity, memory, neurological delusion and the fragile nature of love.

If offered the chance of a new life after death, would you choose to share another existence with your partner or would you part at the end of this one and never meet again?

An accident during a scientific experiment leads to a neuroscientist's body being duplicated. As he attempts to determine which of his two selves is the most authentic, the greatest scientific and philosophical riddle of all is posed: how does the brain construct a self? On Ego explores whether we are simply skin, bone and a hundred billion brain cells, or feeling, loving, thinking individuals.

Co-written by British playwright Mick Gordon and neuropsychologist Paul Broks, On Ego is inspired by Broks' best-selling book, Into the Silent Land a stunning journey into the science of the brain. His numerous research publications cover a wide range of interests, including autism, chizophrenia and acquired brain disorder. Short-listed for the Guardian First Book award in 2003, the book has been translated into ten languages.
