Influential Melbourne 4-piece Kisschasy have today unveiled 'Better'; a bright, infectious single that serves as the final taste of their forthcoming record 'The Terrors Of Comfort' - set for release on February 13th.
'Better', which happens to be the closer on 'The Terrors Of Comfort', is a masterclass in dynamic songwriting. Whilst previous album singles 'Lie To Me', 'Parasite' and 'Uncomfortably Numb' all delve into darker themes of dependence and apathy, 'Better' provides a brighter outlook lyrically - and this is matched through the music, featuring a huge uplifting chorus that makes an instant impact each time it comes around.
"'Better' is the last song on 'The Terrors Of Comfort' and for good reason; it offers a glimpse of hope after taking the listener through the unsettling world of vice and distraction. It's a kind of an inverted love song - a song about saying goodbye to something or someone in order to better love oneself"
"Many times, when writing a song, the music and melody can inform the lyrics, or at least the theme. This song had an optimistic, expansive sound so I thought the concept could be about liberating oneself from that negative force mentioned in previous singles 'Parasite' and 'Lie To Me'." DARREN CORDEUX, KISSCHASY
Recorded between Woodstock Studios in Melbourne and Hermon's Hermit Studio in Los Angeles, the record was produced and engineered by Cordeux along with Richard Stolz on additional engineering duties, with mixing from John O'Mahony (Hole, Coldplay, The Cribs) and mastering from Ian Sefchick (Gwen Stefani, Pantera, Jawbreaker). With such a hands-on approach throughout the recording process, the band were able to capture the true essence of Kisschasy in its purest form; raw, unfiltered and a perfect representation of the band's sound.
"The songs retain a certain spark because we didn't have time to overthink or overproduce them. That spark is this album's secret weapon. It's raw but still Hi-Fi, it has hiss and hum, the tempos ebb and flow but to me it sounds alive, it sounds commanding and it sounds like good chemistry. After playing with a variety of people for a few years I learned how hard it can be to get other musicians to see your vision. With Karl, Sean and Joel it's instantaneous - they always manage to transcend what I'm hearing in my head and transmute the song into its best possible incarnation. That's something I'll never take for granted again. DARREN CORDEUX, KISSCHASY
Originally emerging from the restless southeastern suburbs of Melbourne in 2002, Kisschasy won over fans across the globe with their melodic brand of alt-rock - inspiring countless Australian bands in the process. They've had two gold-selling albums in their time selling in excess of 90,000 records; over 50 million + total streams across their discography; have had 3x ARIA award nominations; and even recently hit number #1 on the ARIA Aus Albums & Vinyl Charts through a reissue of their 2007 classic record 'Hymns For The Nonbeliever' - a release that was supported by a national tour that saw the band play some of their biggest headline shows to date.
