A career survey of the acclaimed auteur whose films fuse stylistic lyricism with provocative explorations of sexuality and ideology. Born in Parma, Italy in 1941, Bernardo Bertolucci is one of the most acclaimed auteurs in the history of cinema who moved confidently beyond the influence of early mentors Pier Paolo Pasolini and Jean-Luc Godard to develop a distinctive and recognisable voice. ACMI's retrospective season offers a rare and unprecedented opportunity to trace the stylistic and thematic preoccupations of Bertolucci's remarkable career, and to view his films as they deserve to be seen. Each of his masterpieces is presented on a spectacular new 35mm print, produced by Cinecitta Luce in collaboration with cinematographers Vittorio Storaro, Darius Khondji and Fabio Cianchetti.
