Many areas in Australia are prone to repeat flooding, and the recent Queensland floods have underlined the high toll of these disasters on homeowners, local communities, the insurance industry and the broader Australian community.

These events highlight the need for a national discussion about floods, including how we as a nation can prepare for them, mitigate their impact and fund the repair bill that results from floods and other natural disasters.

The Institute of Actuaries of Australia will host a one-day seminar to discuss the key issues relating to flood including Australian and international approaches to:
-flood mitigation
-insurance
-flood mapping
-national funding solutions
