As Australia's oldest building, Cooks' Cottage allows you to experience what life was like in the 18th century for the Cook family. You will learn that the Cottage was brought to Melbourne 75 years ago from Great Ayton, in England and that each brick of the Cottage was individually numbered, pulled apart and then rebuilt in the Fitzroy Gardens.

Out the back of the Cottage is a typical English cottage garden. In the 18th century, the garden was used for food, herbs and importantly, medicine.

Your tour of the Cottage culminates at the Discovery Centre, where you will learn all about Captain James Cook, his last three famous voyages, including his tragic death and the amazing legacy he has left for the generations to come after him.
