As they crisscross the country holding seminars for people desperate to escape debt, Joe begins to question the beliefs that have defined his upbringing.
When Jerry's increasingly extreme views and defiance of the law bring him into direct confrontation with Police Chief Jim Bouchart (Dennis Quaid), his grip on reality deteriorates, setting off a tragic chain of events.
