The Story

Founder of the original 'brew-as-you-go' flask, Made by Fressko prides itself in producing stylish, highquality alternatives to plastic water bottles.

Launched in 2014, Made by Fressko was founded in Melbourne by two friends, Lucas and Sean. The vision was simple - to create a range of beautifully designed products, that were versatile and reusable, to help play their part in eliminating the need for single use bottles and throw away coffee cups.

The name Fressko, was derived based on a unique twist on the Italian 'fresco – to eat/ enjoy outside' – exactly as the product enables, while staying fresh, durable and portable.

Since it was founded, the product range has continued to evolve and lead the market with new features, developments, product variations and an entirely new Café Collection, expanding the offer to the Aussie coffee lovers who want to do their bit in saving the planet.

The current product range comprises of the Café Collection, designed specifically for coffee drinkers, as well as The Colour Collection flasks and Original Bamboo & Glass Series flasks; designed to hold smoothies, coffee, juice, as well as brew tea and infuse water.

It is no secret that plastics are playing a major role in destroying our ecosystem. In Australia alone, 373 million plastic water bottles end up as waste each year, while 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans annually, left for our marine life to swallow.

"Our testing process is rigorous at every stage of production and is higher than industry standard. Through multiple tests and Quality Assurance procedures, we make sure they are only ever made from the thickest Agrade borosilicate glass, and food grade 304 18/8 stainless steel.

Question: Can you tell us about the Made by Fressko range?

Sean Atme: The Made by Fressko range consists of the Café Collection (coffee cups), the Colour Collection and the Original Series; designed to hold smoothies, coffee, juice, as well as brew tea and infuse water. Fressko products are made from high quality, sustainable materials such as glass, stainless steel and bamboo sourced from the mountains of Ningbo – not laminate that looks like bamboo. The flasks are completely leak proof, 100% BPA free, meaning chemical leaching, flask discolouring and flavour tinting is a thing of the past. The Café Collection features a spill-proof, screw in, lockable lid and internal barista lines to keep your coffee hot while on the go. Our products are durable, functional and can keep beverages cold for up to 12 hours, or hot for up to 6 hours with the double-wall feature and perhaps best of all, they are all designed right here in Melbourne, Australia.


Question: What originally inspired your passion to source reusable alternative to plastic cups?

Sean Atme: We noticed a gap in the market for a stylish bottle that was suitable for tea, as well as coffee. We were also unimpressed by the figures showing global plastic consumption and how this was and is still affecting the environment. The solution was to create a reusable bottle that looked good and was as versatile as possible.


Question: How else can we reduce our plastic waste?

Sean Atme: Just be mindful of what you're consuming in all areas of life. Plastic food packaging is so easily reduced by avoiding the frozen food aisle, bringing your own reusable bags when grocery shopping, stop using plastic straws, buy boxes instead of bottles, and just being more conscious, when you can't avoid using plastic, to put it in recycling!


Question: Can you talk us through the design process for the Fressko product range?

Sean Atme: The design and manufacturing process is second to none. We design the products right here in Melbourne, Australia and we take our commitment to producing the highest quality product very seriously. Our method of production is a complex 12-step process, but we think it's worth it because it's what essentially gives us our key USP. We have carefully chosen our manufacturers and work closely alongside them to make sure every bottle is perfect, every time. Our partner factories in China are the best in the business, using the most advanced technology and machinery while maintaining ethical workplaces – something that is very important to us. We also employ a third party QC team to oversee each step so we can ensure we are only producing high quality, long lasting products.


Question: How important to you was it that the product be sustainable and durable?

Sean Atme: Maintaining our commitment to providing both a sustainable and durable product, is the MOST important element of this business. Fressko flasks are made from the highest quality glass, bamboo and stainless steel. We test our products at every stage of production and they are only ever made from the thickest A-grade borosilicate glass, and food-grade 304 18/8 stainless steel. The end result is a reusable, durable, beautifully finished double-walled glass flask with best standard of vacuum seal.


Question: How do you use the Fressko product range?

Question: What's next for you and Fressko?

Sean Atme:


We have some cool new products coming out that will cater to our gym enthusiasts as well as expanding on our Cafe Collection. We take our time bringing out new products though as we want to ensure we are providing products that will last but also that are actually needed in our every day lives and are replacing single use versions rather than just 'another product'.
