Public

PUBLIC invites us into a heightened experience of seeing, listening, and watching " to see afresh the everyday, and to relocate ourselves within it.

-That's the exciting aspect of working in public spaces,' explains Saulwick, -the way in which the physical environment and the people within it can become part of the work itself.' The audience for PUBLIC will experience a multidimensional audio design that frames, augments, & disrupts their perceptions of the environment, as the real and the fictive blur.

-Listening to your mp3 player as you go about your daily business is pretty standard practice these days,' Saulwick continues. -We are playing with that phenomenon and flipping it on its head by using sound to gently invite audience to reconnect with the place and the people surrounding them.

Mobile phones texts, karaoke, intimate confessions " PUBLIC reconfigures the public space and the people within it. The food-court at Highpoint will never seem quite the same again.

Tamara Saulwick creates innovative contemporary performance works for theatres and public spaces. Her award-winning work has toured nationally to critical acclaim. 'Saulwick's crafting is so refined that we remain on a knife edge for the entire show.'  (Fiona McGregor, Realtime about Pin Drop).

A resident of Melbourne's west, Tamara is thrilled to be presenting her second site-specific work following Seddon Archives (2011) for the Big West Festival. She is joined by a team of highly accomplished collaborators including Luke Smiles, Nicola Gunn, Martyn Coutts, Tom Davies, Rachael Dyson-McGregor and Diana Nguyen to create what promises to be a truly unique experience in the heart of the inner west.
