Set against the breathtaking beauty of 18th century Venice, PRIMAVERA is a lush and emotionally stirring historical drama inspired by the life and music of Antonio Vivaldi.

At the famed Ospedale della Pietà orphanage, gifted young women are trained to perform for the elite of Venetian society, their extraordinary talents hidden behind ornate grilles and bound by the rigid expectations of the era. Among them is Cecilia (Tecla Insolia), a brilliant 20-year-old violinist whose remarkable musical ability has opened her mind to a world beyond the orphanage walls, even as her future appears already decided for her.

Everything changes with the arrival of a new violin teacher: the charismatic and ambitious composer Antonio Vivaldi (Michele Riondino).  Drawn together through a profound artistic connection, Cecilia and Vivaldi ignite a creative partnership that challenges the conventions of their world and awakens in Cecilia a longing for freedom, self-determination, and a life beyond confinement.

Directed by acclaimed opera and theatre director Damiano Michieletto in his feature film debut, PRIMAVERA is a sumptuous cinematic experience filled with sweeping music, opulent costumes, and richly atmospheric Venetian locations.  Inspired by the acclaimed novel Stabat Mater by Tiziano Scarpa, the film explores themes of artistic passion, female empowerment, and the transformative power of music.

"…a crowd-pleasing, prestige period drama …ravishingly lovely…escapism at its most elegant."
