With the local dollar reaching rock bottom lows and many Australians considering shorter inter-state breaks to overseas trips, Aussies are reminded that they can combine their two great loves - sport and travel - by planning their trips around one of the many triathlons hosted across the country each year. An end of season tradition, the Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival, March 27-29, offers an exciting mix of activities, events and sports, for individuals, couples and families alike.

Since the first Mooloolaba Triathlon in 1992 the event has grown to become the second largest triathlon in Australia behind its counterpoint Noosa, which opens the triathlon season. However, as a season closer the Mooloolaba Triathlon also packs a sporting punch hosting the Australian leg of the ITU World Cup Series, which attracts over 150 of the world's top triathletes battling for their share of Olympic qualifying points and prize money.

But for those who'd rather sit back, soak up the atmosphere and relax, Mooloolaba offers the perfect getaway with its vibrant range of restaurants; from beachfront cafes to fine dining, and fabulous boutiques. The Mooloolaba Esplanade is a popular cosmopolitan area to relax, eat, watch the surf, grab a coffee and enjoy the Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival.
