A tradition steeped in history, the mystery and glamour of Venice's masquerade festival Carnevale is recognised for the elaborate masks and costumes that adorn the maze of streets of the city. The event captures imaginations around the world, including of those who may never venture to Italy to witness it for themselves.
It is this fact that has led Connie Paglianiti, Founder of La Dolce Italia, to bring Carnevale to Melbourne. Embodying everything that is so fantastical about the Carnevale di Venezia Grand Masquerade Ball, Melbourne's very own Carnevale will take place on 11 February 2017 at The Peninsula, Docklands which will be transformed into a mini Venice.
Giving anyone who has ever dreamed of Venice's Carnevale the chance to experience it for themselves, the night promises to be one filled with exquisite and incredible theming and entertainment, all around the idea of Amore – love. In fitting tribute to the conce pt, the event will also raise much-needed funds for those living through the aftermath of the devastating Amatrice earthquake in Italy.
AFL legend Robert 'Dipper" DiPierdomenico has come on board as Festival Ambassador, and says it's a great opportunity to celebrate the fusion of Australian and Italian cultures whilst raising money for those suffering the effects of the Amatrice earthquake.
'Italians are known for their love of a good party, and Carnevale is a great example of that," he says. 'To be able to celebrate such a fantastic international event here in Melbourne is just a terrific fusion of two cultures, both of which are incredibly special to me."
Guests attending the event are encouraged to dress up in the true style of Carnevale, and masquerade masks will be mandatory for the evening. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed, and the entertainment lineup will be announced shortly.
