Icy Thriller 'Dead Of Winter' Starring Emma Thompson Releases in Cinemas 27 November
DEAD OF WINTER, starring two-time Academy Award-winner Emma Thompson will be released in cinemas all across Australia on 27 November 2025. In this riveting psychological and emotional suspense thriller, Emma Thompson gives a powerhouse performance completely different to those audiences have seen from her before, in a tension filled story set against the freezing winter scenery of Minnesota.
Directed by Brian Kirk (The Day of the Jackal, Game of Thrones, Luther) DEAD OF WINTER also stars Judy Greer (Jurassic World, The Descendants) and Emma Thompson's daughter, Gaia Wise.
Recently widowed, Barb (Emma Thompson) travels through snowbound Northern Minnesota to scatter her deceased husband's remains at the remote lake where they shared their first date. En route she discovers a teenage girl, kidnapped and held hostage in an isolated cabin in the middle of nowhere. With no phone service and hours from the nearest town, she has become the young girl's only hope for survival… but at what cost to herself?
The film had its World Premiere at the recent 78th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where it was warmly received by both audiences and critics. Emma Thompson was also feted at the festival with the Leopard Club Award for her career-long achievements in acting, writing and producing. She charmed and delighted her local fans by delivering parts of her gracious acceptance speech in Italian.
