The 24th annual Alliance Française French Film Festival will return to Palace Cinemas in 2013 with a mouthwateringselection of Gallic fare, incorporating 43 new films and documentaries. Fans of the event will be ableto learn about the full programme and book advance tickets.

The acclaimed gastronomic delight, Haute Cuisine (Les Saveurs du Palais), screening courtesy of TransmissionFilms, will launch the Festivals gala opening in Sydney on Tuesday 5 March with celebrated chef, Gabriel Gatéas the evenings compère in the presence of Danièle Mazet-Delpeuch, the Festivals guest-of-honour.The fascinating Mazet-Delpeuch, whose experiences as private chef to President François Mitterrand inspiredHaute Cuisine, will visit Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra during her time with the Festival.

A cook from the Périgord region, who founded Foie Gras Weekend, a pioneering class teaching the regionscuisine, as well as creating the famed École dArt et Tradition Culinaire du Périgord and her renownedrestaurant, Mazet-Delpeuch was called to the Élysée Palace following President Mitterrands request for a“woman from his country, in his kitchen!” As the only female to have ever cooked at the Élysée, what followedwas an incredible, and not always tranquil, two-year period, which is recreated in Haute Cuisine by esteemedactress Catherine Frot as the character inspired by Danièle Mazet-Delpeuch and Académie Française stalwart,Jean dOrmesson, in his first ever film role, as The President.

Presented by the Alliance Française in association with the Embassy of France in Australia and the gracioussupport of Gold Sponsor Peugeot, the 24th Festivals extensive highlights, many of which have received 2013César Award nominations, include After May, Augustine, The Big Night, Camille Rewinds, Ernest & Celestine,Farewell My Queen, FEU by Christian Louboutin, Happiness Never Comes Alone, In the House, The Invisibles,Journal de France, Louise Wimmer, The Man Who Laughs, Our Children, Renoir, Sister, Thérèse Desqueyroux,and Marcel Carnés 1945 masterpiece, Children of Paradise (Les Enfants du Paradis), which will screen onclosing night via a gorgeously restored version.
