Don't become a victim - change your smoke alarm battery

Is your home fire safe? A new survey of Australians commissioned by Duracell has revealed that as many as 70 per cent of parents are not planning ahead in case of fire and proactively changing their smoke alarm batteries every year.

Despite the lack of fire safety practices at home, almost half of Australian parents (47 per cent) consider a house fire more scary than common phobias including poisonous snakes (18 per cent) and spiders (11 per cent), aggressive dogs (8 per cent) and sharks (7 per cent).

Australia's fire & emergency services together with long-term partner Duracell are now in their 14th year of encouraging Australians to have a working smoke alarm and a practiced home escape plan. When it comes to protecting you and your family,  smoke alarms are crucial in giving you the early warning needed to escape a fire so don't be a fool and change your smoke alarm battery today if you haven't changed it in the last year!

To mark this year's campaign, Duracell is giving you the chance to win one of 3 x Duracell Hasbro Packs valued at $92.24 each including:
  • Quell Smoke Alarm - (RRP $20)
  • Children's fire helmet - (RRP $15)
  • Hasbro Super Soaker Thunderstorm - (RRP $21)
  • Play-Doh Boomer the Fire Truck - (RRP $16.25)
  • 2x Duracell 9V Batteries for the smoke alarm -  (RRP $12)
  • 4x AA batteries for the Super Soakers - (RRP $7.99)

Australia's fire & emergency services recommend using long-lasting 9V alkaline batteries, testing the smoke alarm once a month and changing the batteries each year to ensure year-round protection.
